Safety Engineer – Solar EPC & BESS Projects

Position: Engineer / Senior Engineer – EHS

Department: EHS / Safety

Location: Project Sites – Solapur, Maharashtra

Reporting To: Project Head / EHS Manager

Experience: 3–5 Years

Qualification: B.E./B.Tech / Diploma in Safety, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent Safety qualification.

Industry / Project Experience: Experience in Solar EPC, Electrical EPC, BESS, Power, Construction, or Industrial Projects preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement EHS plans, HIRA/JSA, risk assessments, method statements, PTW systems, and emergency response plans for Solar EPC and BESS projects.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, client EHS standards, project specifications, company policies, ISO 45001/14001, NBC, and applicable IS/IEC standards.
• Conduct site safety inspections, audits, toolbox talks, inductions, training, and emergency drills, ensuring timely closure of observations.
• Identify and control hazards related to civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, module installation, cable laying, testing & commissioning, and construction activities.
• Ensure effective implementation of PTW, LOTO, electrical isolation, earthing, work-at-height, excavation, hot work, lifting/rigging, confined-space, and other high-risk activity controls.
• Implement BESS-specific safety measures covering Lithium-ion batteries, battery handling/storage, thermal runaway, fire protection, emergency isolation, PCS/inverters, transformers, HV/LV systems, and containerized BESS.
• Monitor contractor/subcontractor EHS performance, PPE compliance, housekeeping, traffic management, material storage, barricading, and safety-critical equipment.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, near misses, unsafe acts/conditions, and property damage; conduct RCA and ensure effective CAPA closure.
• Coordinate with Project Management, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, QA/QC, Procurement, contractors, clients, and statutory authorities on EHS matters.
• Maintain EHS documentation, inspection/PTW/training/incident records, NCRs, CAPA, KPIs, MIS, and daily/weekly/monthly safety reports.

Experience & Key Competencies

• B.E./B.Tech: Minimum 2 years of practical experience in a supervisory capacity in Safety/EHS.
• Engineering Diploma: Minimum 5 years of practical experience in a supervisory capacity in Safety/EHS.
• Strong knowledge of Solar EPC construction, electrical safety, and BESS/Lithium-ion Battery safety.
• Hands-on experience in HIRA/JSA, PTW, LOTO, risk assessment, work at height, lifting & rigging, excavation, fire safety, and emergency response.
• Proficient in safety inspections, audits, toolbox talks, training, incident investigation, RCA, and CAPA.
• Strong contractor/manpower management, communication, reporting, documentation, and coordination skills.
• Knowledge of Indian statutory EHS requirements and applicable international safety standards.
• Ability to work independently at remote and project execution sites.

Certifications / Preferred Qualifications

• Diploma / Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety preferred.
• NEBOSH / IOSH / OSHA certification will be an added advantage.
• First Aid & CPR / Fire Safety / Electrical Safety / LOTO certifications preferred.
• BESS / Lithium-ion Battery safety training will be an added advantage.

Site & Travel Requirement

• Willingness to work at project sites across India.
• Frequent travel and deployment at remote Solar EPC and BESS project locations may be required.
• Ability to work in a construction/project-site environment and manage safety activities across multiple contractors and work fronts.
